Privacy Policy
Some of you write to us while still in it. This explains exactly what happens to what you send, in plain language, before you decide to send it.

1Who we are
This website is published by Gambling Recovery Media LLC, a limited liability company in Chicago, Illinois, United States. It is the home of the podcast Gambling Recovery: Taking Back Your Life, hosted by Jimmy Morris. In this policy “we” and “us” mean that company.
We are a media company. We are not a treatment provider, a clinic, a counselling service or a crisis line, and we are not a HIPAA covered entity or a business associate of one. Nothing you send us creates a clinical or therapeutic relationship.
2What we collect
We only hold what you type into a form. There is no account to create, no tracking pixel, no advertising network and no profile built about you in the background.
The mailing list. Your email address, and which page you signed up from.
The contact form. Your name, email address, optionally an organisation, what your message is about, and the message itself.
Applying to be a guest. Your name, email address, optionally your city and country, your stated connection to gambling, and your message. See section 3.
Speaking enquiries. Your name, email address, organisation, location, a date or rough timing, a phone number if you give one, and your message.
Our host, Vercel, keeps standard server logs that include IP addresses, for security and to keep the site running. We do not use those logs to identify individual readers.
Cookies. This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. If you switch between the light and dark version of the site, that single preference is stored in your own browser and never sent to us. Embedded video players are covered in section 12.
3Information about your gambling
The guest application asks for your connection to gambling, and the options include I am in recovery and I am still gambling. People also describe their gambling, their debts, their health and their families in the message box on any of our forms.
We treat all of that as sensitive. Under some laws it counts as consumer health data or, in Europe and the United Kingdom, as a special category of personal data concerning health. We have written a separate notice setting out how we handle it, which you should read before you send us anything about your own gambling:
Consumer Health Data Privacy Notice
In short: you choose whether to tell us, we use it only to answer you and to plan the show, we never sell it, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
4Why we use it, and our legal basis
- To reply to you. If you write to us, we use your details to answer. Legal basis: your consent, and our legitimate interest in responding to someone who contacted us.
- To consider you as a guest, or book a talk. Legal basis: steps taken at your request before any agreement, and your explicit consent for anything you tell us about your own gambling.
- To send the mailing list. One email when a new episode is published. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw in one click.
- To keep the site up and safe. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in security and reliability.
We do not sell personal information, we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we do not use it to build profiles or make automated decisions about you.
6Where it is stored
We are based in the United States and our data is processed there and in the European Union. If you write to us from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to the United States, which may not give it the same protection as your own country.
Where we move personal data out of the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum, which form part of our agreement with Brevo.
7How long we keep it
- Mailing list: until you unsubscribe, then we keep a record that you unsubscribed so we do not email you again by mistake.
- Enquiries and guest applications: up to 24 months after our last exchange, then we delete them.
- Anything you told us about your own gambling: deleted on request, and otherwise on the same 24-month schedule.
- Server logs: short-term, as set by our host.
If you appear as a guest, the episode and the recording are kept indefinitely as part of the published archive. That is separate from this policy and is covered by what you agree with us before recording.
8Your choices and rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, and we will do it. You do not need to quote a statute at us and we will not ask you to explain why.
If you are in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Oregon, Montana or another US state with a privacy law, you have rights to know, access, correct, delete, obtain a portable copy, and to opt out of sale, targeted advertising and profiling. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of. You may appeal a refusal by replying to our decision, and we will respond within the time your state allows.
If you are in Washington or Nevada, you have specific rights over consumer health data, including the right to withdraw consent and to have it deleted. Those are set out in our Consumer Health Data Privacy Notice.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and the right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting what we did before you withdrew it. You may also complain to your national data protection authority, or to the Information Commissioner’s Office in the United Kingdom.
We do not discriminate against anyone for exercising any of this. To make a request, email gamblingrecoverypod@gmail.com. We aim to reply within 30 days.
9Email from us
The mailing list is one email when a new episode is published. Every one carries a one-click unsubscribe link and our postal address, and we honour unsubscribes immediately. We will not pass your address to anyone else to email you, and we do not send advertising on behalf of third parties.
If you contact us about something else, we will reply about that and will not add you to the mailing list unless you ask.
10Children
This site deals frankly with addiction, debt, bankruptcy, criminal consequences and suicide. It is intended for adults. The forms are not for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
If you believe a child has sent us something, email us and we will delete it.
11Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Form submissions are validated on our server, our API keys are never exposed to your browser, and access to the inbox and to Brevo is limited to Jimmy Morris and the people who maintain the site.
No website can promise perfect security. If a breach affects your personal information we will notify you and the relevant regulator as required, including under the Illinois Personal Information Protection Act.
12Links and embedded players
The resources pages link to helplines, Gamblers Anonymous, blocking tools, counsellors and treatment programmes. Those are independent organisations. We do not control them, we receive no payment for listing them, and once you follow a link you are covered by their privacy policy, not ours.
Video episodes are embedded from YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), which means YouTube does not set tracking cookies on your device unless you press play. If you do press play, YouTube receives that request and its own privacy policy applies. The audio player streams from Podbean, which receives a request when you press play.
13Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we handle anything you have already sent us, we will say so clearly on this page and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent again.
